The Rest of the Story . . . . .

Go back to yesterday' Speechless Sunday, and click on each of the pictures to see them full sized. This is a cactus wren's nest Ted encountered on one of his walks through the desert.  At the time he took the picture, the Mom and Dad were squawking up a storm, and as you can see in the second photo, they were spreading their tail feathers.

Ted assumed they didn't want him getting too close.  Today, he noticed the nest, but didn't see any birds around or in the nest.  When he got home, he went back and zoomed in on the picture he had taken.

Click on the picture below to see what he discovered!

Isn't that the creepiest thing you've ever seen?  No wonder Mom and Dad were squawking.  Mr. Snake was eating their eggs.  As you can see, he is quite plump in the center from however many eggs he swallowed.

Definitely a case of survival of the fittest . . . . . .

Poor little wrens. All that hard work and hope for nothing. Did NOT make me smile. :( Snakes gotta live too, but this is another example that Mama Nature is not all butterflies and rainbows and cute fluffy bunnies ... it's a vicious battle to survive.
