Gone Too Soon

I did a post a couple of years ago about my cousin, Maryellen. She was the closest thing I ever had to a sister when I was growing up.

Twenty-one years ago today she lost her life in an automobile accident. She had a three year old daughter. As you can imagine, it was a terrible day for everyone in the family. I think about her often, but especially on this day.

*Maryellen is the smart one with the short hair*

Garden's First!

Ted picked the first cucumber from the garden last night. I never used to like cucumbers because of the burp factor, but then someone told me to remove the skins and you won't burp!

So, if you didn't know that, consider yourself told - peel and eat away til your heart's content!

Throw in some salt, pepper, dill weed, cherry tomatoes, and drizzle on Paul Newman's Italian dressing, and you've almost got dinner ready! Is your mouth watering yet?

In a little over four months, I'll be trekkin' in Arizona in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure. I'm still trying to reach my goal, and I'm currently having an auction! All proceeds from the BUCKS4BOOBIES auction will go toward my goal.

Stop by if you have a few minutes and bid - the items have very low opening bids, so you're sure to get a deal if you bid! Instructions for bidding are on the left side of the blog. I'm adding new items every day, so check back often!

Thanks for helping me reach my goal!

Never a Shortage!

Every morning, this one is waiting in my front flower bed for me to bring out some dry food.

I'm convinced they're using Twitter!

Monday Cuteness!

These metal chairs used to be white. I didn't realize how boring white was until I saw them in a different color. Three cans of Aqua Satin spray paint did the job in a jiffy. I think I'm in love! Next up - either buying or making cushions!

And speaking of love, my new neighbors have the cutest beagle puppy! He had company over the weekend - three little doggies. They ran around her yard and had the best time ever!

Have a cute week!

Floppy Cats Interview

The floppy cats website is dedicated to the cat breed known as ragdoll. Each week they are featuring a cat related Etsy shop and interview. My kitty Newman is part ragdoll - I think he got the doll gene, and not much of the floppy rag gene. This is about as floppy as he gets!

Today, my Cat in the Clover Etsy shop is featured on the website. If you have a chance, please stop over there and check out the interview!

Have a happy Father's Day weekend!

Nature at its Finest

This morning was a feast for the eyes in our backyard. This precious tiny baby deer was jumping around like a bunny and taking time out to feed.

Pretty soon another one showed up - maybe the Daddy?

And when they left for the woods, Mr. Tom Turkey strolled in.

Meanwhile, Tammy Turtle, or was it Tommy Turtle?, was looking for breakfast in the front yard!

Happy Flag Day!

P.S. The cute cat from yesterday's Speechless Sunday post was a kitty we saw in Madison, Indiana, sleeping in the window of the bookstore. His name is Oscar Wilde, and he is the owner's cat. He reads books by day (or sleeps), and then goes upstairs to his home at night.

My Beautiful Balloons!

Someone besides me likes the colorful balloons that my bunco gals gave me Thursday night!

Fifty-three years ago today, my Mom gave birth to a 9+ lb baby. In my defense, I was a couple of weeks late, and should have been born near my Aunt Laura's birthday the end of May. I was named for her instead!

Since I've been married, we (or should I say, I) like to celebrate birthweek! I think anytime you can stretch dinners out and presents, you should do so!

The week started last Sunday by taking Ted's Mom home. It happened to be Ted's brother's birthday, so we met at our half-way spot and had lunch to celebrate his 49th birthday.

Red Hots was last night. We had a small group, but we accomplished a lot. Red Hot Hand is renovating an old home, and she wanted our advice. We're always ready to give advice on any topic! Can you guess which foot was the guy tearing up the old tile in the kitchen? I'll give you a hint . . . . he does not have painted toes!

Tonight is Bunco . . . . another night of no cooking, and maybe winning a prize! I got a nice prize from my hubby today. A self-inflating mattress for my 3-day trip in November! I'll be sleeping like a baby! One of my good friends gave me a check for $100 toward my goal in the Susan G. Komen walk! It's been a good birthweek, and it isn't over yet!

Happy Birthday to me . . . . . thanks Mom and Dad!

Tour Through the Bluegrass

Yesterday we spent a lovely afternoon driving through parts of Kentucky. Ted's Mom is in town, and we knew she would enjoy seeing some horse farms. This is a very small part of Winstar Farm. These horse farms are huge with beautiful stables and fencing that goes for miles!

We stopped in the quaint town of Midway, home of Midway College - an all girls college. The main street in town has a train track going down the middle with cute shops on each side. See if you can spot the antique woman in this picture! LOL! I'm really not a giant - Ted's mom is super tiny!

Here is a horse farm adjacent to Midway College.

We drove to Frankfort - Kentucky's capitol. This is the governor's mansion - not a bad home sweet home!

There is a loop that drives around the capitol. They were stopping cars from going through because apparently a big celebration is taking place this weekend - the 100th birthday of the capitol building (there have been four over the years - two of which burned down). For some reason, we looked official - or like caterers - so they let us drive through.

These adorable picnic tables turned into horses were all over the capitol grounds.

It was a great day for a drive! And of course, we stopped for some ice cream along the way!

Run for Cover!

Or walk as fast as you can!
