Happy Halloween!

The masks are no different than they were in 1964 - they make you hot and your face sweats!

May your Halloween be full of treats and no tricks!

Smile and Say Cheeze!

At my Cat in the Clover Etsy shop, I'm making crocheted Calvin Collars for cats in memory of Calvin. One dollar from each collar is being set aside, and when $25 is reached, a cat is being sponsored at Best Friends Animal Society.

Meet our first sponsored cat - Cheeze!

Here is what Best Friends says about Cheeze:

Just say Cheeze! If you have a chance to visit Cheeze at the Colonels here at the sanctuary, he may decide that you can touch him; but don't even try to pet him! This beautiful kitty grew up on the big city streets and never learned to bond with people, so he likes to keep his distance.

His favorite treat is cat cheese - that's how he got his name. If he had a second name, it would be Curiousity. That's because, while he keeps his distance, he's fascinated by people and everything they do. That's how de decided it might be fun to start touching people. He just hasn't gotten around to being petted yet!

I hope this is one of many orange kitties we can sponsor in Calvin's memory. Thank you to all our pawsome Catster friends who have helped make this a reality!

A Huh? Moment!

Well, Oprah may have her Aha moments, but something I experienced last week left me saying, huh?

We are getting a new roof put on the house. We currently have a gutter cover system that we have not been too pleased with because Ted has still had to get on a ladder and occasionally clean out clogs.

So, I called Gutter Magician to get a quote on their product. They are advertised on our local radio station all the time, and I was impressed by what I saw on their website. Their receptionist told me their salesperson would like to sit down with both Ted and myself, and I told her that was not going to happen. Ted is not about to take off work to listen to some guy tell him about gutter systems!

Because they will not just come out and give you a quote without talking to you, I had an appointment last Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.. At 2:00 p.m. I get a phone call telling me the salesperson would not be coming because they got tied up with the previous customer.

Annoyance sets in.

The guy on the phone apologizes and wants to know if they can come out the next day at the same time. He promised the guy would be on time. I asked if they could just come out and measure and give me a quote, and he said, We can't do that because it would be trespassing.

?????? sets in.

The next day, the what-I-thought-was-the-salesperson showed up on time. We sat outside on the front porch, and the first thing he asks me is if my husband is also home. I told him no, and that I told their receptionist that I would be the only one they were going to meet. He went around and checked the current state of the gutters and came back with a report telling me blah, blah, blah, some spots pulling away, blah, blah, blah, overspillage, etc.

He then said he wouldn't be able to continue showing me the product or giving a quote until he could sit down with both of us.

It is company policy that they won't sell you anything unless they have talked to both homeowners. I told him that was the dumbest company policy I had ever heard about. He mentioned some crap about community property state which was a bunch of baloney. He also wanted to know if I had permission to make decision that day? PERMISSION?

Let's just say the next ten minutes was spent with me telling him that I couldn't believe they could even get business of any kind with a company policy like that. He then proceeded to tell me that he worked in the warehouse and all the other salespeople were busy that day, so they sent him out to my house.

I completely wasted two days on trying to give my money to this company. Apparently, they have enough business in this economy that they don't need my money.

I hope you don't need clog-free gutters. If you do, I hope you have a better magician than this company!

Cloud Watcher

Do you envision animals and other creatures when you look at the clouds? I do. Last night I was meeting Ted for dinner, and this is the sky I saw out the front car window.

Nothing too special about the clouds, but the sky was a beautiful golden yellow that reminded me of my beautiful golden yellow angel.

Rest in Peace

Our precious Calvin boy made his journey to the Rainbow Bridge this morning after a six week battle with cancer. He was 18 years old. His journey was calm and peaceful, and he took a huge piece of our hearts with him.

We'll love you forever, Calvin, and our home will not be the same without you.

The "L" Word

Leaves . . . . . . .

and ladybugs . . . . . . . we got 'em . . . . . . lots of both of them!

I came home from running errands, and found about 20 ladybugs in my dining room! They can get in the house through the smallest window cracks.

Some things you might not know about ladybugs:
1. They love the color white.
2. They come out when the sun is shining and the weather is getting colder.
3. They want to be inside for the winter - they're not stupid!
4. They stink, stink, stink. Oh, they may be lucky to have around, but you're not lucky if you squish one and then smell your hands!

I thought I'd throw in a little touch of pink still blooming on my front porch for Breast Cancer Awareness month! Do yourself and your family a favor and get annual mammograms! Just like the ladybug, it would stink to get cancer!

Yeah, I've Been There!

As a birthday surprise for Ted, I got tickets to the Louisville Orchestra last night. There was a rock band and singers that accompanied them, and the night was dedicated to the music of The Eagles!

The Kentucky Center was packed, and it was a great show! Of course, one of the big hits of the night was Hotel California. Here is the Hotel California in Cabo San Lucas from our summer vacation in 2008.

Enjoy your weekend!

Happy Birthday!

All the handsome men in my life have fur on their faces. My favorite one happens to be the breadwinner of the family, and he is one year older today! I have never seen him without the beard, and even though he likes to blame the gray on me, I think it makes him look very distinguished!

And the cats don't think the gray should be blamed on them, either! By the way, he robbed the cradle when he married me . . . . . at least that is what I keep telling myself!

Happy Birthday, Ted! Love you!

Treats, No Tricks!

The Red Hots were treated to a fun evening last night at Pam's house! There were cute halloween decorations both outside and in the house!

Don't you love this Red Hot pumpkin and want one for yourself?

After a yummy dinner, we attempted to make fancy pretzels and treats on a stick. Pam is quite the expert at this fine art, and the rest of us didn't get a good grade from our teacher!

Mylinda definitely won the prize for the most creative arrangement of gummy candy!

As you can tell, a couple of Red Hots are not ready for the cold weather to be here! They are hanging on to their pedicures as long as possible.

Thanks for a fun time, Pam!

It Never Gets Old!

It's always exciting to look out the kitchen window and spot deer in the backyard. These three have been hanging around for a few weeks. We have a lot of nuts from the trees, and they enjoy eating them. And of course, these are the stinkers that also eat my hostas in the spring!

That lovely blue tarp on the woodpile is to protect my cat shelter from the weather. I have a rubbermaid container on its side attached to a shelf so the neighbor's two cats can get out of the rain or snow. I have seen them use it, so I leave it up year round. I hate having neighbors that shouldn't own pets.

Be sure to click on the photo to see the deer up close - can you find all three? They really blend in with the fall leaves.

Happy Columbus Day!

One Fish, Two Fish . . . . . . .

Dr. Seuss was the theme of yesterday's baby shower for the daughter of one of the Red Hots! Baby Lillian Rose is due in December, and she is on her way to being best dressed with all the cute clothes and goodies she got!

Guests were invited to decorate a bib, onsie, or burp cloth with all the items provided - and didn't it make for a cute decoration too?

The cake was not only spectacularly made, but tasted good too!

I decorated the pink bib, and another Red Hot blinged out a onsie with pink gems.

The Red Hots went together and got Lillian a Rainforest Jumperoo which technically ends up being a gift for Erika when she needs her hands free for other things!

Nothing like a Bundleme to get a Mom-To-Be excited!

Good luck with your delivery, Erika - I think it will be the perfect Christmas present for the family!
