Remember the Good Times!

High school graduation - do you remember yours? It's a time when you think you know everything. But you really don't know what you don't know!

Last night Jake graduated - he is the last of the three boys to graduate from high school - his parents are good friends of mine from college. Jake is my favorite of the three!

Graduation was held at the largest church in town - that is Jake's picture on the screen. They show all the seniors' photos and the colleges they plan to attend. Sorry for the photo quality - I had my small camera with me and I was lucky to get anything at that distance away.

After all the seniors parade across and get their diplomas, they come out into the crowd with a rose for their parents. Here is Jake hugging his Mom.

And hugging Dad too!

Of course, family is there - here is one of his older brothers, Zack. Zack is my favorite of the three, even with hair that belongs on a girl! Just like I said above, you don't know what you don't know. One day he'll know that this hair looks ridiculous, but you have to learn that on your own!

I don't have a photo of other older brother, Andrew. He is my favorite of the three. I like his hair! And how lucky that they still have two grandmothers and one grandfather - here is Grandma and Grandpa - Grandpa's wife is on the other side of him.

Today is graduation party day! Congratulations to Jacob and good luck at Western Kentucky University next year!

Congratulations also to Red Hot Bargain Babe's two girls - one is graduating from college, and the other is graduating with her Masters.

Congratulations to Red Hot Princess' nephew who is also graduating from high school!

Herd of Horses!

Chicago had cows. Seattle had pigs. We have horses. Back in 2004, Louisville had an event called Gallapalooza. There were over 200 horses around town - decorated by artists and a fundraiser to support various charities. Each one is unique and there were several horse poses.

It was so successful that the city decided to have another round of Gallapalooza! For a $1 raffle ticket, people can take a chance on owning one of the horses! As I drive around town, I've been seeing some of the new horses, and I thought it would be fun to feature them occasionally on my blog.

This horse is in front of one of our Walmart stores. The title of this horse is called Race to Recycle and the artist is named Rose Flowers (I'm not making this stuff up!).

Does your town do anything like this? I hope you enjoy these horses from the Bluegrass!

Feeling Blue!

Here is the finished dining room! The paint was Home Depot's Behr, but the color was Glidden. The color on the bottom is Granite Grey. The color on top is called Antique Silver, and is one of those colors that appears silver at times, but mainly a really nice shade of blue.

My carpet is gray, so I really love the way it turned out. I've always liked that print, and I got it super cheap at Garden Ridge many years ago. I haven't hung anything else on the walls yet, but I wanted to show you the results!

When we were at our second home this weekend - you know, Home Depot - I saw some of that Behr fabulous paint on the Ooops We Mixed It Wrong table. A gallon for $5! How sad that I couldn't think of anything to paint with the color. Someone is gonna snatch up a great deal!

Stay cool - we're sweating in Kentucky already - humid, humid, humid!

How To Spend A Saturday!

We have several projects we're working on at one time - mainly because summer is the only opportunity Ted has to help me with my long list. I spent yesterday cutting the upper half of the dining room walls. I'd much rather roll than cut - it takes forever!

This morning I started the rolling. My trusty assistant was helping the entire time! I knew I should have bought that awesome paint for the top half too because it didn't cover nearly as well. I'll have pictures when everything is finished. Above the chair rail is a shade of silver that really appears to be a blue color against that darker gray on the bottom. I love the way it looks!

Then we tackled the unfinished part of our lower level. Please tell me you have a place in your house that looks like this? I was about to lose my mind over the mess! We could hardly walk in here from all the stuff we brought from my parents' house.

So, we spent about nine hours in here - sorting, pitching, consolidating, recycling. We have more to do tomorrow, but I have enough stuff for a yard sale. I may decide that it is not worth doing a yard sale (Lorie, I hear you yelling - donate it instead - it's not worth the trouble!), and it will get donated to my vet's office who is having a yard sale next month.

Tomorrow we celebrate our 23rd wedding anniversary. We went to Washington DC on our honeymoon because neither of us had been there before. We were in Arlington Cemetery for Memorial Day, and saw Ronald Reagan drive by in a limo for a ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Have a wonderful holiday weekend!

Fabulous Paint!

Remember the deep red walls in the dining room from yesterday's post? I picked a dark gray for below the chair rail, and when I was at Home Depot getting the paint, the guy asked me what color I was covering.

He recommended Behr's Premium Plus paint which is a primer and paint in one. Of course, with the name premium, you know it's going to cost more - about $8-10 a gallon more.

Now, I'm not one to always jump at the recommendation of a sales person, but this guy looked like he had painted a few walls in his day, so I thought, why not! If it can save me putting on three coats of paint to cover that red, then I'm all for that!

Well, take a look at this - this is just ONE COAT! We're talking FABULOUS PAINT HERE PEOPLE! I could probably get away with only one coat, but I'll put on two just because I have enough paint, and it will look better.

Mr. Salesman said, it will go on like honey, and he wasn't kidding! I'll probably wish that I had bought the same type for the color above the chair rail!

And yes, Mr. Newman, my interior decorator, was right along side me every step of the way. At one point, he decided to grab the brush from my hand, and he got paint on his paw. Never a dull moment with him around!

Good Help!

Anybody that says you can't get good help these days obviously doesn't own a cat or a dog. When I discovered this mess in the corner of the dining room several weeks ago, I wondered where it came from.

I soon discovered that my personal interior decorator decided that it was time for the wallpaper border to go. Check out the corner to see where he started removing it for me.

Well, Newman was right! I've been looking at those roses for 10 years - gee, has it really been that long?

So, after finishing the paint job in the study, I'm on a roll! The wallpaper border is history (Newman supervised the entire operation) . . . . new paint has been purchased . . . . . . and I'll be working on that project for the next few days!

Guess what else happened today? I went out in the backyard tonight to take some trash out, and a bat swooped down and touched my shirt and hair! Yes, it was a bat, and yes, I screamed bloody murder - did you hear me?

A Study in Chaos!

Meet my green thumb! I wish it was green from being good with flowers and plants. But, it's only green from paint!

And here is where most of the green has gone - on the study walls! I have one more coat on two walls, and I'm done!

And then we pull out the rest of the carpet and lay the floor this weekend. Do you know how much fun it is to move a gazillion books, two desks, bookcases, and file cabinets - and don't forget about computers and wiring!

Not fun at all!

Calvin Does It Again!

Did you catch the Preakness today?

  • Not since 1924 has a filly won the race.

  • The jockey of the Kentucky Derby winner has never ridden a different horse in the Preakness.

  • Rachel Alexandra was the first horse to win the Preakness from the 13th start position!

All the moons were aligned today! Way to go, Rachel Alexandra! I was cheering you on!

Red Hot Toes!

We had Red Hots last night - dinner at a great little restaurant called Selena's. We all had something different, and everyone seemed to enjoy their meal. And we had both appetizers and dessert - yummy!

You can tell by the bare toes that the warm weather is almost here to stay! Be sure to stop by and visit Jill and take her summer piggy pledge!

Hey, how did two of us get so tan already? One of them is not me! I stay the same color year round!

There's No Place Like Home!

Despite the painting that needs to be done both inside and out, the garden fence that needs to be fixed, the floor that needs to be laid, the grass that needs to be cut, the trees that need to be trimmed, there is nothing better than exploring with a camera at this time of year - before the heat, humidity, and bugs arrive full force!

Enjoy the tour around my yard from yesterday! Looks like Mama bird has abandoned the nest at the front door - eight eggs - my guess is from two different birds.

Linda was my cousin - my Mom's brother was her Dad. Although she was not a family member I stayed in contact with, it was sad hearing this news from her brother yesterday. And especially to have it happen on Mother's Day.

I had recently gone through a lot of Mom and Dad's pictures. They had quite a few photos of my cousins when they were young. I sent them to my cousin, Bob, and told him to share them with his sisters.

He told me that he and his other two sisters had recently visited Linda and they looked over all the pictures and had some nice memories. I'm thankful they had that last chance to get together before she passed away.

Auction for Aldo!

Aldo is a well-known kitty on Catster. Almost one year ago, his Mommy unexpectedly passed away. Thanks to the diligent efforts of many friends, he was rescued and found a new forever home in Baltimore.

He has recently become sick, and due to his Mom's current unemployment, his vet bills are mounting. His Catster friends are holding an auction to help raise money for Aldo!

I have taken on the task of creating a blog and posting items that are available for bidding. The auction will run until May 25th. There are a variety of items - cat-related, books, jewelry, nicknacks, home decor, and more! New items are being added daily.

Please take a few minutes and check out the auction! Place bids in the comment section of the item you wish to bid on. Contact information must be left (either Catster ID#, email address, or blog that has an email contact) or you could lose your high bid to the next highest bidder!

If you don't have a blogger account, you can select Anonymous or Name/URL from the drop down menu! Thanks, and bid often!

What's Four More Days?

I've been looking at this hole in the study wall for almost two years!

Two months ago it got better when we finally got around to installing a new piece of drywall!

And doesn't the concrete floor look lovely? We had a leak . . . . . we had water on the carpet . . . . . we have had stuff happen, and none of this was a priority. But it is now, or I'm going to lose any sanity I have left!

Today, Mr. Drywall was to come between 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. to finish this wall. And to fix the lovely ceiling in our bedroom - remember that fun back in December?

So, at 5:15 I get a phone call that he won't be coming today. YA THINK? And it looks like Monday will be his next opportunity!

Hurry up and wait!
