The "L" Word

Leaves . . . . . . .

and ladybugs . . . . . . . we got 'em . . . . . . lots of both of them!

I came home from running errands, and found about 20 ladybugs in my dining room! They can get in the house through the smallest window cracks.

Some things you might not know about ladybugs:
1. They love the color white.
2. They come out when the sun is shining and the weather is getting colder.
3. They want to be inside for the winter - they're not stupid!
4. They stink, stink, stink. Oh, they may be lucky to have around, but you're not lucky if you squish one and then smell your hands!

I thought I'd throw in a little touch of pink still blooming on my front porch for Breast Cancer Awareness month! Do yourself and your family a favor and get annual mammograms! Just like the ladybug, it would stink to get cancer!

I love ladybugs, too! We don't get very many around here. I didn't realize they were so stinky. Learned something today!

Oh I don't like them either...we get a lot of them around here to,we do live on a mountain, and our house really sits on a sunny ridge,so we have plenty of them..I was hoping the frost would kill them off..but I guess not...take care now...

My mom has at ton of Ladybugs too. When they come in the house she vacuums them up with the central vac!

Isn't Autumn such a beautiful time of year? I hope you and Ted are enjoying the weather.

Lovely flower Laura! I have got to schedule a Mammogram!

I understand they can cause allergies too! Crazy, something I never would have attributed to such cute little bugs.
Good reminder, thanks!

Hey Laura,

So funny - I get tons of ladybugs in my house (mostly the bathroom) every winter. It seems so odd!! There isn't a white wall in this house but all the trim is white, and that's where I'll find them...on the windows! And you're right - do they ever stink when accidentally squished or even touched!!!

I live in rural Iowa and we have ladybugs/japanese beetles by the MILLIONS!!! My house is yellow and green but that doesn't stop them from crawling all over the outside by the thousands. I sprayed on the porch with bug killer and went out yesterday and swept up TWO POUNDS of them!!! Since everyone knows how small and light they are, you can just imagine what that many looked like. (yes, I know, I'm a bit weird, but there was such a pile of them that I was curious to see what it would weigh).
They live in the soybean fields all summer and when the soybeans are harvested, they start looking for somewhere to hibernate.
Not only do they STINK, but they also BITE! ...and that yellow stuff in 'em STAINS too! Ick, ick ick!!!

I am glad someone mentioned how ladybugs bite as one bit me yesterday. I felt a bite and was so surprised to see what it was. They seem so cute but can sure be a nuisance. Nice pictures , thanks Laura.
