Rest in Peace Sweet Jazz

May 15, 1997 ~ March 24, 2009

The day Jazz was reunited with her owner, Shalanda, after having been kept away for almost three years.

You can read all about Jazz's story from a previous post .

The Rainbow Bridge
Inspired by a Norse Legend

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

I went back and read your first post about Jazz and the other dogs. Heart wrenching! So glad Jazz got to be reunited even if it was for just a few more years. Sad to see Jazz go.

So sad Laura. I'm glad her mom was able to have her back for a little while before she passed but it must have been so tough to let her go again.

I know this was a tough one for you also. What a sad day it must have been when you heard the news.

When did Shalanda actually reunite with Jazz?

Rest in peace Jazz. I went and read the story and now I am bawling! I am so glad that Jazz got to be reunited with her mom. It is always so sad when our dear animals pass on.

Such a tragedy that Jazz was only home less than 9 months before passing on while Shalanda fought 3long years in the courts to get her Katrina dog back. I only wish for Karma for those who taunted, enjoyed and caused her such suffering.
Very nice tribute to Jazz Laura.

I am sick to hear this! Out of horrible comes good and out of Katrina came one of the best friends a girl and a dog could ever have ..... YOU! I am so sorry for this loss. I know it is as much a loss for you as Jazz's mom. So glad you could share the poem...we will see them in heaven!
